Pearl Jam Announces New Album ‘Dark Matter,’ Plots World Tour

Pearl Jam has simultaneously announced a world tour and the arrival of their twelfth studio effort, “Dark Matter,” slated for release on April 19. The band shared the set’s electrifying title track on Tuesday morning.

The 35-date worldwide tour will launch in May, just a few weeks after the release of “Dark Matter,” and hit nine countries and 25 cities, starting with the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia. In North America, Pearl Jam will visit Wrigley Field, Madison Square Garden, Fenway Park, and deliver their first hometown performance in six years at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena.

Special guests include Deep Sea Diver, Glen Hansard, The Murder Capital, Richard Ashcroft and Pixies. The band is utilizing all-in pricing for ticket sales, ensuring complete visibility of the full ticket price, and, to cut down on scalping, they will be mobile-only and non-transferable. If fans can’t use their tickets, they can sell them via the Fan-to-Fan Face Value Ticket Exchange, where no markups will be allowed.

Produced by multi-Grammy award-winning producer Andrew Watt, “Dark Matter,” is the band’s first release since 2020’s “Gigaton.”Consisting of 11 songs, the LP was written and recorded last year at the Shangri-La Studios in Malibu where the band “simply plugged in and played with producer Andrew Watt at the helm,” per the album’s press release.

He continued, “The musicians faced one another in the same space and communicated sonically at the highest level. Writing and recording in a burst of inspiration, ‘Dark Matter’ was born in just three weeks.”

“We’re still looking for ways to communicate,” said frontman Eddie Vedder in a statement. “We’re at this time in our lives when you could do it or you could not do it, but we still care about putting something out there that is meaningful and we hopefully think is our best work. No hyperbole, I think this is our best work.”

“What Ed said about getting us in a room at this point, we felt like we were about to make a really important record,” added bassist Jeff Ament. “A lot of that had to do with the atmosphere Andrew set up. He has encyclopedic knowledge of our history, not only as a band and how we wrote songs, but as players. He could pinpoint things we did on old songs to the point where I was like, ‘What the fuck is he talking about?’ His excitement was contagious. He’s a force. I just want to say thanks for keeping us on track. I couldn’t be prouder of us as a band. I feel so grateful for the fans, but mostly for my brothers and these people I’ve made music with.”

The band is also participating in Record Store Day, celebrating indie record stores with the release of a special edition of “Dark Matter” on April 20.

'My memory is fine' - Biden hits back at special counsel

US President Joe Biden has angrily criticised an investigation that found he mishandled top secret files and said he struggled to recall key life events. In a surprise news briefing on Thursday evening, Mr Biden insisted: "My memory is fine." He slammed a claim that he could not recollect when his son died, saying: "How the hell dare he raise that?" The inquiry found Mr Biden "wilfully retained and disclosed" classified files, but decided not to charge him. Department of Justice Special Counsel Robert Hur determined Mr Biden had improperly kept classified documents related to military and foreign policy in Afghanistan after serving as vice-president. The scathing 345-page report, released earlier in the day, said the president's memory had "significant limitations". Mr Hur interviewed the 81-year-old president over five hours as part of the inquiry. The special counsel said Mr Biden could not recall when he was vice-president (from 2009-2017...

Moscow attack: Russian court charges four men with act of terrorism

Russia has accused four individuals of carrying out an assault that killed at least 137 people in a music hall in Moscow. Four were in wheelchairs and three were marched into a Moscow court, bent double. They were all accused of carrying out terrorist acts. The Islamic State organisation, or IS, released video footage and claimed responsibility for the outburst that occurred outside Crocus City Hall on Friday. Without providing any proof, Russian officials have asserted that Ukraine was involved. The assertion is deemed "absurd" by Kiev. Three of them were captured on camera being led into the Russian capital's Basmanny district court by police wearing masks. All of them seem to have been assaulted; sources claim at least one of them received electric shocks. Videos of the gruelling questioning sess...

Trump says he would 'encourage' Russia to attack Nato allies who do not pay their bills

Donald Trump has said he would "encourage" Russia to attack any Nato member that fails to pay its bills as part of the Western military alliance. At a rally on Saturday, he said he had once told a leader he would not protect a nation behind on its payments, and would "encourage" the aggressors to "do whatever the hell they want". Members of Nato commit to defend any nation in the bloc that gets attacked. The White House called the comments "appalling and unhinged". Nato chief Jens Stoltenberg said any suggestion that "allies will not defend each other undermines all of our security", putting soldiers from Nato countries at risk. Addressing crowds during the rally in South Carolina, Mr Trump said he had made his comments about Russia during a meeting of leaders of Nato countries. He recalled that the leader of a "big country" had presented a hypothetical situation in which he was not meeting his financial obligations within N...
